Cyber Monday "Cyber Monday Deals 2011" is the second hottest search in Hot Searchs (USA) today. But ..
What is Cyber Monday?Thanksgiving Day is the 4th Thursday each November and is an occasion mostly celebrated in America. I did ask the question What is Thanksgiving a few days ago and now I realize that Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday are all related.
Black Friday, as I mentioned yesterday, is the day after Thanksgiving and is a massive sale day for retailers - especially of the brick and mortar kind.
Now I discover that Cyber Monday is the Monday immediately following Black Friday and Cyber Monday is the equivalent of what Black Friday is to off-line retailers. Cyber Monday is when online internet sales are expected to soar.
Origins of Cyber MondayAccording to wikipedia.org, "Cyber Monday" made its debut in November 2005 - so it is a relatively new concept; which does not mean it is not huge. Cyber Monday" was a term created by companies to persuade people to shop online.
Cyber Monday as an online shopping phenomenon continues to grow. It has spread internationally (how could it not given the nature of the ubiquitous internet) and according to comStore, Inc. (USA), the Cyber Monday Online Sales for 2010 was over US$1,000 MILLION.
Any small online seller who is in the know (unlike me :( ) would be in on this Cyber Monday phenomenon. Huge companies have and continue to lead the way including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Dell, Best Buy, Staples, Verison, and many more. For shoppers, this is a bonanza because deals abound everywhere. And you don't even need to get off your butt and get trampled in the rush (unlike Black Friday shopping) to find a deal. However, with the proliferation of deals everywhere, finding the right deal for you might be more of an issue. Good Luck on your online Cyber Monday shopping spree.
