Daniel Day Lewis is stupendous!  I first saw him in My Left Foot (1989) and I have been mesmerized with him ever since. He is one of the few rare actors who can transport you away from himself (Daniel Day Lewis) into the character he portrays.

Daniel Day Lewis is making headlines today ("daniel day lewis" is No. 1 in Googles's Hot Searches (USA)) in large part for his upcoming role in Lincoln, a new Steven Spielberg film scheduled for release in late 2012.

Daniel Michael Blake Day-Lewis was born on 29 April 1957 and holds both Irish and British citizenship.

Daniel Day Lewis is reported to be a method actor who immerses himself into the role of his character, even off the set and it has been said, even to the point of adversely affecting his health.

He is also reportedly one of the most selective actors in the film industry: there has been as many as 5 years lull inbetween roles.

He had a minor role in Ghandi (1982) playing the character of a street thug and bully (Coliin).

In 1989 while working the the stage play Hamlet at the National Theatre, he collapsed in a scene where the ghost of Hamlet's father first appears to Hamlet.  It was rumoured that Daniel Day Lewis had seen the ghost of his father - a rumour he later confirmed.  He has not appeared on stage since.

In 1996, during the time when he was working on the film version of The Crucible (written by playwright Arthur Miller), he met his wife Rebecca Miller - the playwright's daughter.  (Arthur Miller was married to Marilyn Monroe in 1956; Marilyn's third and last marriage).

Woodworking and shoemaking are two of Daniel Day Lewis's passions.
